March Kit - Caillte sa Cheo Chéanna

CAILLTE SA CHEO CHÉANNA ¦ lost in the same fog

This kit was a long time in the making. I first heard this phrase a few years ago on a Valentines Day special of the Motherfoclóir podcast. If you haven't heard of the show before I highly recommend it! They're no longer creating new episodes, but the old ones are still available to listen to. The host, Darach Ó Séaghdha, has also written a couple of books.

Anyways, I heard the phrase and knew I had to stitch it! I just wasn't quite sure what it should look like. I'd come back to the idea every so often when I was looking for inspiration for the next kit, but nothing I did ever seemed to fit quite right.

I thought about having just the words, but that seemed too simple. I thought of a sort of negative space design, where we'd stitch the 'fog' to reveal the words. I thought of the words beside some art nouveau style 'fog'. Nothing was clicking. So I left it alone for a while. And I'm so glad I did! I have no idea where in came from or why now, but just before Christmas, this design came to me. Part of me wanted to wait another year so you'd be stitching this kit in time for Valentine's Day, but honestly I was just so excited to stitch it I decided to go ahead with it for March.

We're using 4 different colours in this one. 2 shades of red to give the hearts some depth. A cream for the letters. And a green for the fog that matches the background fabric. That's going to give a really subtle 'fog' effect!

There's 7 stitches involved in this one! And some we haven't seen in a good while - like the trellis and block shading.

This month is also the first month that our 2 new subscription tiers are live! Not only can you be a Needle Nerd and get a kit every second month, but you now have the option to become a Calico Companion or a Pattern Pal. Calico Companions receive just the fabric from the kit every other month. This is a great option if you like the designs but want to do your own thing with them, or maybe just use up your stash of threads instead of adding more. Pattern Pals is a digital subscription - you'll get the pdf pattern every second month. That's basically the instruction booklet that comes with the kit in pdf form. This is a great option for overseas subscribers who maybe want to avoid shipping costs or wait times.

So there you have it - March's Needle Nerd kit. Subscribe now to be sure you get this kit! You can find out all the info here.

If you've missed out on the subscription deadline (28th February 2025), you can also order this kit in the shop while stocks last.
